After reading some other opinions on the HGs, I’ve noticed that some of my impressions of them differ slightly. You very well may disagree with me completely – and that’s awesome! My opinions tend to change throughout the season as people show their true colors, so who knows? Maybe in a week I’ll be agreeing with you.
Read on for my thoughts on this year’s HGs. My opinions are more about them as people rather than their planned strategies, simply because those strategies change so often that after a few days they might be completely irrelevant.
I totally see the resemblance to Paola from BB16, both physically and in terms of personality. I’m curious to see if she’ll be evicted early like Paola or if things will work out a little bit better for her. I liked how genuinely excited she was to be in the Big Brother house, but she does seem like the type who could get on people’s nerves. I’m sort of on the fence with her right now. I have a feeling I’ll either end up loving her or wishing she would be evicted ASAP. Time will tell, but I’m leaning more towards liking her at the moment.
I’ve seen a lot of people who really like Cameron, but I personally had a little trouble connecting with him. I felt like he was trying a little too hard in his interview with Jeff, but he might be someone who pulls a Paul Paradox for me. I’m not a fan of his right now, but my least favorites at the beginning often become my favorites later on. I’m hoping that’s the case this time.
I feel like Christmas could potentially pull the opposite of a Paul Paradox for me. Right now she’s one of my favorites, and I think she has the potential to do well in the game. I’m interested to see what she’s like in the house, especially on the live feeds. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I don’t end up hating her later in the season.
Ah, another attractive guy named Cody on Big Brother. This is where my opinion seems to differ from many others’. Cody is one of my least favorites in terms of personality. I feel like he has the potential to be one of the villains of this season, perhaps even along the lines of Paulie from BB18. And how appropriate would it be to have BB19 Cody become this year’s Paulie, who was the brother of BB16’s Cody? He may very well change my mind and become someone I like, but right now, I’m highly skeptical.
My opinion of Dominique also seems to differ slightly. Yes, she’s very pageant-y, and yes, she has the potential to get a little annoying, but I appreciate the fact that she’s smart. It’s easy to not be super annoyed by someone during a quick interview, but I think my opinion of her could change very quickly. I’m hoping it doesn’t, though, and that I continue to like her. If she’s careful to not overdo it with her personality, I think she could potentially do well. At the moment, though, I have a hard time picturing her winning.
I don’t love Elena, but I do like her at the moment. I can see her becoming one of my favorites or one of my least favorites, and I don’t think there will be much of an in-between. I can see myself getting tired of her, but I have really high hopes for her, both in terms of her as a person and with her game.
I don’t have much of an opinion on Jason yet. He seems nice enough and like he has a good sense of humor, and I can see him livening up the feeds. Usually I like the HGs who have seen Big Brother before being cast, so the fact that he hadn’t automatically puts him at a disadvantage for me. I can see myself liking him though, and I don’t dislike him at this point. I do hope he doesn’t wear that hat all season, though. He’s not exactly Carl or Rick from The Walking Dead.
Right now it seems like Jessica is meant to be this year’s model-type, and to me, it seems like she should be a contestant on The Bachelor. I do like that she actually knows a couple things about Big Brother, even if it’s just an act. She at least knew who Jeff was and what the Diary Room looked like, which is more than can be said for past HGs, and even some HGs this season from the looks of it. I can see myself liking her, but I’m on the fence right now. I am leaning more towards liking her than disliking her, though.
Poor Jillian. I got secondhand awkwardness watching her interview with Jeff. Like many others, I’m curious why BB casting thought she should be on the show, but I’m hoping that her shyness and awkwardness will pass. There must be something about her that seemed promising for one reason or another. She’s definitely not unlikable to me (not yet, at least). Who knows? Maybe she’ll end up being one of the season’s biggest surprises.
If I could only use one word to describe Josh, it would be “ugh,” which is more of a sound than a word anyway. I can see him being evicted really quickly, and if he wins HoH, I think he’ll definitely get HoH-itis and kind of lose his mind with power. I can’t see him winning, but at this point, I’ll be super disappointed if he does. I’d say he gives me the worst headache of any of the HGs.
As for Kevin, one word I’d use to describe him is “kooky.” He’s kind of a nut, but I actually sort of like him. His personality could get tiring, but I can see him doing better than some of the past older HGs. If I had to guess, I’d say he’d either be evicted early or last quite a while. I’m not sure if I can see him winning, though. He’s definitely the most interesting older HG I’ve seen in a while.
When I saw Mark’s photo, I thought, “Oh, here we go, another guy obsessed with working out who will put everyone down and be a total jerk.” After watching his interview, I feel the complete opposite (minus the working out thing, obviously). He seems like such a sweetheart and very respectful. He’s one of my favorites, and I really hope he does well. I worry that other HGs may walk all over him, but hopefully his strength (though sometimes the bigger, “stronger” guys actually end up being pretty weak when it comes time to compete) will keep him around.
Matthew seems really nice, too. I seem to like him more than other people do, but isn’t that the way it always goes? I can see him going pretty far or becoming an early evictee. Right now, I like him a lot, but he may be one of those HGs who quickly changes my opinion for the worse. As long as he doesn’t become a Paulie-type, I don’t think I’ll dislike him too much.
Megan isn’t one of my favorites, but I do like her. She seems funny and nice, and pretty likable. I like that she’s a fan, too. And, always a plus, her voice isn’t grating or obnoxious (though her Rachel-esque laugh could get annoying if I hear it too much). Once she’s settled into the house and her true personality comes out, I think she’ll either be very likable or kind of annoying. She seems like she really wants to compete and make the most of the experience, which I love. I’m looking forward to seeing how she plays.
I’m not so sure about Ramses right now. I definitely don’t dislike him, but he might be almost too energetic for my taste. Luckily, I don’t think he’ll be able to keep up that hyperactive energy all summer. His interview with Jeff made it seem like he was still auditioning for the show, which I didn’t love. If he calms down a little, I think I could like him a lot.
Like many others, I’m not sure about Raven. I did judge her by her photo, and ended up liking her more after watching her interview. She has a personality that I think will make her be loved or hated by viewers, and I’m hoping it goes more towards the love end of the spectrum. I can see her going somewhat far, even if it’s purely to be the weekly pawn or the easy-to-beat option at the end. I’m hoping she’ll surprise me, though, and end up being a great player all on her own.
So, there you have it! I have a good feeling right now about this season’s HGs, but I don’t want to get my hopes up, just in case it ends up not being so great after all.
Who do you think is looking like a strong player so far? Anyone you think will be early-pickings and not make it to jury?
